It’s all about challenging mainstream beauty ideas for Lupita Nyong’o. The Kenyan actress is redefining beauty standards on the cover of British Vogue‘s February 2020 Fashion and Film issue. Lupita rocks her hair natural on the cover while donning a Louis Vuitton dress over a purple long sleeve shirt.

The 2012 Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner tells Vogue that it is her passion that keeps her going.

It’s passion. I definitely want to claim ambition, but I get very compulsive about the things I am passionate about, to the point of not sleeping. It’s very impractical. I fight the barriers that I form for myself because they’re often ridiculous.

Lupita who is set to star in an adaptation of Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie‘s novel Americanah says that she had never seen the African contemporary experience explored and celebrated the way it is in the book.

I had never seen the African contemporary experience explored, celebrated and analysed in such a way. The observations she makes as a non-American black person about America are things that I had never articulated but had felt. I was just madly in love.
