Every fashion week has its unofficial style stars: the people whose outfits we’re just as excited to see as the collections on the runway. At Lagos Fashion Week, one person who has consistently understood the assignment is Nicole Chikwe.
The IT Girl, writer, entrepreneur and Premium Pie in chief is no stranger to a fashion moment. But what makes Chikwe particularly fun to follow is that she brings considerably more than a good outfit to the occasion. There’s personality, a healthy appreciation for Nigerian designers, and the kind of confidence that makes getting dressed look like a very good time.
For anyone familiar with Chikwe’s journey, she’s spoken candidly about once feeling the need to downplay her height and dress to blend in. These days? Blending in is definitely not on the agenda. And we are SO here for it.
Here are three moments that show why we’re keeping a close eye on her fashion-week wardrobe.

An LBD To Die For
Proof that you don’t need an elaborate outfit to make an impression. Chikwe trades dramatic draping for a strapless black mini, delicate heels, and diamond hoops. It’s sleek, a little flirty, and refreshingly uncomplicated. Chikwe proves she can wield simplicity to devastating effect.

A Turquoise Moment
There’s something about a floor-length maxi that feels particularly right for Lagos Fashion Week. Chikwe chose the icy aquamarine Lamide Sadipe number for the brunch with @themelroseloft x @beautyhutafrica in this serene hue with strategically placed cutouts, and twisted draping make this look a lesson in feminine glamour. Add the floral statement earrings, iridescent handbag and her irrepressible energy you’ve got a look that is pure perfection.

The Blue Crush
If the little black dress was an exercise in restraint, this electric-blue number is its far more outgoing cousin. With a glossy snakeskin-like finish and thigh-grazing length, the two piece packs a fashionable punch. The silver heels and a matching clutch are the right finishing touches.

What we love most about Chikwe is, like a true fashion girlie, she seems to genuinely enjoy fashion, which, in an era of endlessly manufactured fashion moments, is so refreshing.
