Heineken Lagos Fashion Week reinvented its opening day Fashion Business Series talks for 2018 with a new concept – “The Gathering”. The by-invitation-only fashion business dinner brought together some of the biggest names in the fashion, including Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Dimeji Alara, Latti Ronke Bamisedun together last night at The Wings in Victoria Island, Lagos.
“Platforms as so important for us to tell our African story,” South African visual artist Trevor Stuurman said to BellaNaija Style. “We can use creativity to carve our own narrative” Trevor was one of the panellists for the conversations yesterday centred around “The importance of platforms in fashion’s eco-system”. With him on stage was Style House Files/Lagos Fashion Week Founder Omoyemi Akerele who moderated the panel, power blogger Tamu McPherson and Daniel Hatton of the Commonwealth Fashion Council were co-panellists.
As the evening carried on, the tight-knit community of designers, models, musicians, actors, and agents – both new and seasoned mingled seamlessly, all highly anticipating the Spring/Summer 19 presentations. Omoyemi shared that the evening’s purpose was to celebrate LFW, and the progress it has made by providing a platform for creatives to own their own narratives.
The dinner was a nice time to be together since it is so rare to get everyone like this in one room. Kelechi Odu who will be showing today sat alongside his wife Mazzi Odu on the same table with Bola Balogun, Zara Odu, Sisiano and Dumebi Iyamah.
Other designers included Bridget Awosika, Emmy Kasbit, Papa Oyeyemi, Destiny Nwadire, and Fashion Focus Finalist Adenike Balogun. BellaNaija Style’s Mary Edoro was in attendance as well as blogger Akin Faminu, Photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Media star Vimbai Mutinhiri and stylist Jane Michael Ekanem.
