Floating eyeliner. Crimped hair. Electric washes of colour. Deep, dark smokey eyes and metallics. The beauty looks at AFI Capetown Fashion Week were as runway-ready as the looks, where the hair and makeup closely resemble works of contemporary art. Check out the top hair and makeup trends we spotted on the Capetown ramps.

A Wash Of Colour

As seen at Sisiano at the Lagos Fashion Week A/W18 presentations, Marco Louis, Raine Tauber and the MAC team opted for eye-catching colour across the eyelid at Gavin Rajah and the same technique was applied to the lower waterline offering a unique spin on a typical runway eyeshadow look.

80's Hair

We can’t believe we are saying this, but it looks like crimping is back! This 80’s hairstyle staple took to the runway in South Africa and it looked incredible.

Basically the opposite of beachy waves, the statement hair look has been  spotted on celebrities like Gabrielle Union who rocked a soft braid-out at the God’s Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards and Beyoncé  at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards late 2017.

At Capetown Fashion Week models wore deep side parts with twisted quiffs and a half-down crimped style, full of volume. The modern crimping iron gives less of a pronounced zig zag pattern, and natural sisters can easily pull this off with a softly textured braid-out.

Graphic, Floating Eyeliner

This season, the MAC SA team took a classic makeup look —the cat eye—and gave it a totally modernised look. A sharp graphic eye gave a glam, rocker vibe at Tongoro Studio and we are beyond here for it.

Bold Lips

Another cross continental trend – bold lips as seen as Mo Agusto were spotted at AFI Capetown Fashion Week. We are pretty partial to a bold red or purple on a regular day, so we were easily sold on this look with its simultaneously matte but glossy finishes. The colour payoff on these lipsticks are pretty spectacular!

Extreme Nails

Definitely one of the more impractical trends showcased at fashion week, nevertheless really  playful and fun. It also has the added benefit of really popping in runway and behind-the-scenes images!
