Valentine’s weekend is here, and there is love in the air. Every restaurant has a full reservation. Everyone has a date already…or do they?

It’s one thing to have someone to spend Valentine’s Day with, and another thing if you are alone. Love does not have to be complicated. Before you can love someone, you must first love yourself.

There is no better way to show yourself self-love than to indulge in a delicious meal. After all, Valentine’s Day is not just for couples. It is a day of love. With a bite and a sip of these five yummy goodies, you will begin the journey to a “self-love” Valentine’s in no time.

Plantain

When was the last time you had a plate full of fried plantains? Usually, plantains are served as a side dish, but in this case, make them the main course. Plantain will always put you in a good mood. It is scientifically proven to do so as it contains a healthy dose of Vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 produces dopamine which plays a role in how we feel pleasure. There you go!

Suya

Nothing speaks love like beef, chicken, goat meat or fish suya. Whoosh, so good. There’s something deeply satisfying about eating Suya. From the preparation to the tender juicy meat and the spice. Suya pepper can never be enough. The combination of pepper and spices triggers the feel-good chemicals called endorphins. I call that a two in one deal; tastes good and makes you feel good.

Red wine

Buy yourself a bottle of red wine. It does not have to be expensive nor cheap, mid-range will do. Pour yourself a glass—relax. Red wine is good for your heart and will help you relax. Studies show that the plant compound resveratrol, found in red wine, helps relieve stress.

Chocolate

One, two, three or four chocolate boxes will always leave you wanting more. Chocolate is a love language on its own and is proven to improve your mood. Buy some and let it speak to you.

Ice cream

Indulge in some delicious ice cream. You deserve the best of the best, so do not hold back when it comes to choosing which one.

Here’s wishing everyone, single or booed up, a Happy Valentine’s Day!
