While many designers brought glamour to the AMVCA red carpet, Veekee James once again proved why her creations remain some of the most anticipated looks every award season. Despite currently expecting her first child, the designer still managed to deliver three headline-worthy fashion moments that had everyone talking.

The first was worn by Osas Ighodaro, who arrived in a fiery red structured piece that looked almost architectural in construction. Featuring dramatic horizontal sculpting, sheer mesh detailing, and a silhouette that felt futuristic yet feminine, the look instantly became one of the standout moments, as it was the first look to be posted.

For Osas’ second look, Veekee pushed creativity even further with an impeccable silver ensemble crafted using iron metal sponges. Yes, metal sponges. According to the designer, the dress was created using over 400 pieces, transforming an everyday household item into a couture masterpiece. The result was dazzling; textured, reflective, and liquid under the lights. It was the kind of unconventional fashion risk that reminds people why the AMVCAs remain such an exciting space for African designers to experiment.

And then the final look: Nomzamo Mbatha, AMVCA host and red carpet belle, stepping out in a breathtaking dress made from thousands of strip lashes. Strip lashes.

Created as a collaboration between Veekee James and Msmetics, the look blurred the line between beauty and fashion in the most spectacular way. Soft yet dramatic, intricate yet wearable, the gown transformed a beauty product into high-fashion art, proving once again that Veekee James does not just design clothes; she creates conversation pieces.

At this point, it is safe to say Veekee James is operating in her own category. Love it or not, one thing is certain: Veekee James came to leave fingerprints all over this year’s AMVCA red carpet.
