South Africa’s biggest annual fashion event South African Fashion Week #SAFW is coming back for the Spring 2021 season but this time, the platform is going digital.

According to the organization’s release:

For the past 24 years, we have steadily been building our creative fashion industry so that twice a year fashion influencers from Africa and the world can gather at South African Fashion Week in Johannesburg to view the collections of signature African luxury and attend the trade show that serves as a central networking and trading hub for designers, boutiques and the fashion media.

Our principal concern now is to bolster the creative fashion industry as it faced the unprecedented challenge posed by the global Coronavirus pandemic. More than ever SAFW understood the imperative to galvanise South Africa’s designers behind examining both the intrinsic brand values they respectively offer as well as the broader value system they wish to own as a collective. To this end, innovative new multimedia platforms have been created as a vital space in which to connect with all the stakeholders, including the all-important boutique retail sector which continues to be of primary importance.

Equally, and despite having to focus on mitigating the disruptive impact of the pandemic during 2020, the central pillars of SAFW’s scope of business as a holistic driver of capacity building in the creative fashion industry remains in place.
