The award-winning Ghanaian British actress, screenwriter, singer, songwriter, poet and playwright takes the publication on a personal tour of her ancestral home in Accra, Ghana, and talks openly about love, life, representation, politics, and what matters most to her about living a creative life on her terms.

“They asked me where I would like to shoot it,” Michaela said in a video posted on the magazine’s Instagram page. “I thought to myself, ‘Shoot for the stars. Aim for the moon.’ I said Ghana.”

On the cover, the style star looks lovely in a chartreuse sequined gown accented with soft pink feathers designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci. The outfit featured a keyhole cutout attached to the high neckline by a crystal rhinestone brooch, which matched her hoop earrings.

The rest of the cover shoot featured different scenes from Ghana. Against a backdrop of pedestrians carrying a variety of merchandise, Coel showcased a black-and-white polka-dot Gucci pantsuit. She complemented the outfit with a white fur coat by Michael Kors, blue gloves, and white lace-up boots by Gucci.

On Her Family:

I started to imagine my parents as people, not parents, and what a crazy life it must have been to emigrate to England. Imagine you’re a smart, intelligent man like my dad, but you are just seen as someone who cleans. You face this glass ceiling. And so I have to thank him for everything he did because he made me who I am.
