In line with our Declutter & Donate Campaign, conscious consumption, and the amplification of Sustainable Fashion in Africa, BellaNaija Style’s Head of Content, Mary Edoro, and co-host of the BellaNaija Style x SUNLIGHT Sustainably Fashionable Gathering turned heads in an upcycled, perfectly tailored Aso-Oke two-piece.

Mary took to her Instagram page to break down the look:

What do you wear when the theme is “Sustainably Fashionable”? I went deep, deep into my dear mother’s wardrobe and found this gorgeous 15-year-old Aso-Oke. Yup, 15-YEAR-OLD! I had it tailored into this simple two-piece. 😊

You see, handwoven/handcrafted pieces are so special to me – anything involving natural energy, and waste reduction. Like I said during our welcome address, there’s a sentimental attachment to this look, therefore, I will cherish it, take proper care of it and no doubt continue to rock it for years to come.

According to Mary, there is a need to emphasize the fact that carefully crafted quality fabrics built to last is far more beneficial to the environment and wardrobe in the long run as opposed to purchasing fast fashion clothes.

In addition to her look, Mary wore an elegant gold bow headband made from Aso-Oke fabric placed on her perfectly snatched ponytail. She paired the two-piece with statement jewelry and red pumps. For beauty, it was a go big or go home moment. Mary opted for bold lashes and a bold eye-look with matching lips.

Taking it all together, her look for the BNSxSUNLIGHT gathering ranked among her best fashion moments yet.
