For July 2018, Destiny Connect Magazine shines the spotlight on Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng who has a passion for Math Education and fashionable outfits.
Earlier in the year, the 51-year-old was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT). In a statement, she said: “I wasn’t sure if UCT was ready for me. I’m a bit young and my earrings are too big – I’m too colourful!”. She is uncompromising about her style and self-expression, refusing to conform either intellectually or in terms of fashion.
From her Instagram page @FabAcademic, you can tell how much she loves to dress up, live life while making gaint strides professionally.
Her style is proof that you don’t have to wear boring clothes to be taken seriously. The 52-year-old wears bright colours and bold prints really well – on the cover, she rocks a simple black and white outfit but makes the look pop with a polka dot necktie.
