As far as trends go, the trend of women wearing oversized suits and ties, reminiscent of how men dressed in the 1990s, is making a significant comeback, and we are absolutely here for it. While some might argue that the 2010s and 2020s have primarily seen a renaissance of past looks rather than the creation of new trends, this particular trend feels genuinely fresh, at least for women.

If we examine the history of women’s pantsuits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, there was always a distinct silhouette. In the 70s and 80s, jackets typically featured darts to accentuate the waist, highlighting the suit’s femininity. Even in the 90s, when suits became looser, women’s suits still had a specific, tailored look. However, what we are observing these days is women embracing suits actually designed for men.

The amazing thing is how easy they are to style. If your father still has a suit he wore in the 90s, you can simply borrow and wear it. The reason retro suits are perfect for this look is that modern suits tend to be more “shaped,” which isn’t the look we’re aiming for. You can add a belt if you like, but the key to this look is the oversized aesthetic.
