Alek Wek needs no introduction, the South Sudanese supermodel has built a reputable career boldly strutting on catwalks and being the face of major international brands.

Along with all these, Alek was the first African woman, and the first black woman, to cover ELLE USA in 1997.

Not only known for her striking beauty, she is also known for her humility and warmth. Like most things in life, it hasn’t been an easy journey becoming the icon that she is and ELLE South Africa is celebrating her in their December issue.

Inside The Great Escape issue, the incredible 40-year old talks about her journey so far and most of all her infectious smile.
