You shower, moisturise, put on deodorant, brush your teeth, and you are good to go, right? Well, maybe not quite!

While we all have our daily shower-and-prep routine down to a science, a few sneaky hygiene habits can easily slip through the cracks. From wearing outside clothes on the bed to holding onto the same damp face towel a little too long, everyday habits can quietly host sweat, oil, dead skin, and bacteria without us even noticing.

Good personal hygiene is about so much more than just smelling fresh or looking put together—it is about those small, consistent routines that prevent bacterial cross-contamination and keep your skin glowing.

So, if you are already taking good care of your skincare and haircare, here are five essential hygiene dos and don’ts to upgrade your daily routine!

Keep ‘Outside’ Clothes Off Your Bed

Daytime clothes carry invisible dust, outdoor pollutants, and bacteria from public seats. Jumping onto your duvet in outside attire transfers those microbes directly onto your sheets. Make it a rule to shower, finish your evening skincare, and change into clean pyjamas before slipping into bed.

Use a Fresh Face Towel Every Single Day

Reusing a damp washcloth reintroduces trapped dead skin cells and bacteria back onto clean pores, triggering breakouts. Keep a stack of small face towels on hand, use a fresh one daily to gently pat your skin dry, and toss it straight into the laundry.

Pay Attention to ‘Hidden’ Body Spots

A quick scrub over your arms and legs is not enough. Moisture-trapping areas like the backs of your ears, your belly button, between your toes, and behind your knees naturally collect sweat and lint. Cleansing these spots daily keeps skin smooth and prevents trapped body odour.

Change Your Bedsheets Twice a Week

Your pillowcases and bedsheets silently accumulate night sweat, body oils, shed skin, and dust. Leaving linen on for too long creates a breeding ground for bacteria that causes stubborn facial acne. Strip and wash your bedding twice a week for fresh, happy skin.

Pair Your Toothbrush with a Tongue Scraper

Brushing your teeth only cleans part of your mouth. The tiny grooves on your tongue trap food residue and bacteria that a toothbrush cannot clear. Using a stainless steel tongue scraper morning and night gently lifts that buildup, instantly boosting fresh breath.
