The Tinie Tempah led brand What We Wear is gradually becoming a pillar of the street style clothing niche. Their famous knitwear and suit set designs rooted in sportswear were a major hit last season and for a special collection that showed at the just concluded ARISE Fashion Week, the brand chose Lagos as its muse.
Tagged 7 Days Till Lagos, the capsule collection was based on the vibrancy of the city and its vivacious energy, these were expressed through texture and bright colours, including beige, green, white, orange, yellow and black hues.
According to the statement following the release:
This organic fusion stemmed from Tinie Tempah’s Nigerian roots, giving the nation an opportunity to visualise how British and African clothing-accents compliment one other. The instant inspiration derived from deciding seven days before the show, a whole new collection would be produced and executed felicitously.
Luxurious and fine fabrics such as hessian, canvas weave, printed velvet, mohair, linen and cargo were used to complete the collection; heavily focused on merging intricate detail and boisterous prints to form a combination of traditional and modern silhouettes, including the kimono-style that filters regularly on the runway.
