Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was a co-chair for the Met Gala 2025, an annual charity fundraiser attended by the elites. This was her very first Met Gala, and she graced the hallowed red carpet of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where the Met Gala takes place every year, in a gorgeous shade of red.

Her Prabal Gurung-designed outfit had both flamboyance and impeccable tailoring, perfectly aligning with the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” With a dress code of “Tailored For You,” Chimamanda truly understood the assignment.

Several elements of her look were striking, particularly the frills embellishing the shoulders and waist of the dress, as well as the long train adorned with bows and ties. Her hair, packed in an updo, also deserves special mention – it was so regal and queenly. And the jewellery? The diamond necklace, chandelier earrings, and rings exuded an air of opulence and flamboyance, all deeply rooted in Black culture. The regality of this outfit was truly fit for royalty.
However, the most captivating feature was the bold red colour, which wasn’t only the colour of her dress but was also on her lips. A woman in a red dress becomes the centre of attention, and red, a fiery colour, instantly brightens the wearer just as it did for Chimamanda.
