Women always steal the show on the AMVCA red carpet with iconic looks from Osas Ighodaro, Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic and a host of others.

This year’s edition promises to be a stand out night for the men as well, we are placing the spotlight on top menswear designer Taryor Gabriels as he opens up about some of his favourite red carpet looks and his designs for this year.

What inspires your designs?
Frankly speaking, what inspires my design is innate. It depends on the vibes.

What trends should we look out for this year?
More aesthetics. Designs influenced by minimalism.

What looks should we expect to see from you this year?
A fusion of symmetrical designs and the proper gentlemanly attire, for people who appreciate the true value of bespoke fashion.

Do you have a different design process for red carpet looks?
No. All attires produced go through the same production process and standards. I always ensure that regardless of clientele, standards are not compromised. My red carpet looks are reflections of the person wearing them.

Considering the awards celebrates the best of Africa, how do you infuse that into your designs?
In consideration of this, I add a touch of regality to my design.

What has been your favourite look on the AMVCA Red Carpet?
Alex Ekubo’s look for 2013 and Richard Mofe-Damijo’s look for AMVCA 2017.

Can you tell us which celebrities you will be working with this year?
Over the years we have styled notable personalities on the AMVCA platform. We are sure to be styling the MD of Multichoice Nigeria, the Head of Marketing; Richard Mofe-Damijo and a couple of high net-worth individuals.

What does it mean for your clothes to be showcased at AMVCA?
AMVCA is the biggest platform in Africa for the film industry. It’s an honour to be showcased on such a major pedestal.

This year’s edition is not during the usual award season; do you think that will affect what guests will be wearing?
Hopefully not. Attendees of AMVCA are people of class, and they sure know the best way to portray that grandness in them.

The AMVCAs will hold on Saturday, 1st of September at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos and will air LIVE on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.
