Congratulations are in order for two game-changing African designers Adeju Thompson and Lukhanyo Mdingi! Both designers have been shortlisted among twenty finalists for the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Prize 2021. In its eighth edition, the LVMH prize offers one stellar designer each year, a €300,000 prize and a year’s worth of mentoring.

The organization announced the 20 semi-finalists via their Instagram page this week.

Adeju Thompson is the lead designer and founder of Lagos Space Programme, a Nigerian based genderless brand. While Lukhanyo Mdingi is the mastermind behind eponymous South African womenswear and menswear brand Lukhanyo Mdingi which is based in South Africa.

Both designers are in the running for the 2021 LVMH prize and will present their creations via a digital showroom from April 6 to 11 at LVMHprize.com. This year, the public will be invited to vote for the designer that will win the LVMH prize.

In 2019, Kenneth Ize and Thebe Magugu also from Nigeria and South Africa respectively made the finals, and Thebe Magugu eventually won the competition. We hope for more representation like this of African talents on the international level.
