When we think of a Martini, the first thing that comes to mind is this infamous James Bond phrase; “Shaken, not stirred”. It’s amazing and practically impossible to order a vodka martini without channelling your inner Sean Connery. He indeed was the best James Bond.

On the other hand, when you think of a Zobotini, what should come to mind is an African or shall I say Nigerian herbal infused vodka cocktail. Our love for trying new things led us to create our very own version of a Zobotini. Zobo is a Nigerian drink made from a dried specie of hibiscus leaves called Roselle. It’s very easy to make and typically infused with sugar and fruits such as pineapple and ginger. Some go the extra mile and add a bit of dried pepper—packs a punch. Zobo can be either sweetened or unsweetened.

Whilst the drink on its own is a great thing to enjoy, you should take it up a notch and make a Zobotini. Zobo cocktails are becoming one of the latest features on the Cocktail menus in Lagos. There’s no reason why you should be left out. It’s quick, simple and easy to make. Give your friends a taste of Nigeria with this simple recipe.

Ingredients
60ml Zobo – sweetened
35ml Ginger beer
25ml Vodka
25ml Origin Herbal bitters
25ml Orange juice
6 cubes of ice
1 Slice of lime to garnish

Step 1

In a shaker, put in the ice cubes then add the orange juice, vodka, herbal bitters, ginger beer and zobo. If you don’t have a shaker, you can improvise with a thermal cup that has a lid or a flask with a lid.

Step 2

Shake vigorously for about ten seconds until the shaker becomes cool. When using a thermal cup, make sure the sipping hole is closed to avoid any leakage.

Step 3

Pour the mixture into a martini glass and garnish with a slice of lime.
