For romance author Bolu Babalola, her wedding dress was more than just a beautiful gown. It was the result of a special bonding experience with her mother during a trip to Istanbul, where the pair designed the dress together, turning the process of creating her dream bridal look into a cherished memory.
The vision was eventually brought to life by Bespoke House Fatih, resulting in a romantic mermaid gown crafted from intricate, dainty lace and delicately scattered with tiny shimmering crystals. An off-the-shoulder sweetheart neckline added a soft, feminine touch, while the long sleeves and elaborate train brought drama to the otherwise closely fitted silhouette.
Speaking to Vogue, Babalola explained that the balance of the fitted gown, delicate sleeves and dramatic train allowed her to feel both regal and completely herself. The result was a wedding dress that felt elegant without losing the personality at its heart.
Even her bouquet carried a personal meaning. She wanted it to be “bold and bright, like our love”, bringing a burst of colour to the romantic bridal look. From designing the gown with her mother to seeing the final vision come to life, every detail of Babalola’s wedding look was rooted in love, making it all the more special.
