We all love the good mix of art and fashion, and through the skilled brush strokes of Laolu Senbanjo, we got a good dose of that at the Art Basel Maimi 2017 with a black leather trench coat hand painted for Swiss Beatz and Alicia Keys.

The abstract drawings on the coat show piano keys, sacred figurines, and other markings which we have come to know as his signature style of art, Afromysterics, incorporating African themes and traditions – all contributing to making the jacket a total masterpiece.

Clearly, Laolu is carving a niche for himself in the fashion industry, collaborating with Nike, Bvlgari, Beyoncé, designing luggage bags and more recently a Grace Jones-inspired bodysuit for Taraji P. Henson.

Curating an outfit may not be the same as curating artwork, but it’s not uncommon to have fashion designers with a penchant for the arts; Karl Lagerfeld with his love for photography, Tom Ford with film-making and Giorgio Armani with the Armani Silos.

When Laolu Senbanjo releases his first fashion collection, just remember, you heard it here first.
