Fashion’s most theatrical night of the year has arrived. The 2026 Met Gala takes place on Monday, May 4, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and this year’s edition is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about in recent memory, for reasons that go well beyond the outfits.

The Theme: Fashion Is Art

The dress code for this year’s star-studded fundraiser is “Fashion Is Art,” in conjunction with the spring exhibition’s theme, “Costume Art.” The exhibition is inspired by “the centrality of the dressed body in the museum’s vast collections,” according to Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge. Guests are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly, think Mondrian-inspired silhouettes, Schiaparelli surrealism, or any look that blurs the line between couture and canvas. We particularly cannot wait to see the African artists that will “eat this theme up”!

This year carries particular institutional weight: the 2026 Gala inaugurates the Condé M. Nast Galleries, a nearly 12,000-square-foot space adjacent to the Great Hall, which Bolton described as “a huge moment” that will be “transformative for our department.” The exhibition pairs garments from the Met’s collection with artworks to reveal the inherent relationship between clothing and the body.

The Co-Chairs

The 2026 Met Gala is co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and, as always, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. It’s a formidable lineup, Beyoncé brings pop cultural dominance, Kidman brings Old Hollywood glamour, and Williams adds athletic and philanthropic prestige. The host committee is chaired by Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz, and includes names such as Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, and Teyana Taylor, among others.

The Bezos Factor

No element of the 2026 gala has generated more heat than its sponsorship. Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos have invested a reported $10 million in the event, making them the lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs, and crucially, this marks the first time in the event’s history that a private individual is appearing as the lead sponsor.

Who’s In, Who’s Out

Zendaya, after seven straight years as a Met Ball star, is sitting this one out. On the flip side, Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lena Dunham are confirmed attendees, with Katy Perry also teasing a comeback after a multi-year absence. We’re also expecting appearnces from Tyla, Tia Adeola, Adut Akeh, Anok Yai.

The Price of a Seat

Individual tickets are priced at $100,000 for 2026, while a table sells for $350,000, and guests must be invited by the museum to purchase tickets. The funds raised go directly toward the Costume Institute, supporting acquisitions, conservation, its reference library, and the salaries of its 29-person staff.

How to Watch

Exclusive red carpet coverage will stream live across Vogue’s digital platforms, including its website, YouTube channel, and TikTok account, starting at 6 p.m. ET. Of course, BellaNaija Style will bring you all of the highlights on our Instagram.

Whatever your take on the politics, the 2026 Met Gala promises to be a spectacle unlike any other, part art exhibition, part cultural battleground, and entirely unmissable.
