Africa’s finest will gather on September 1, 2018, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos to celebrate the best actors and movies on the continent.

Ahead of this year’s edition of the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards, top makeup artist Anita Adetoye of Anita Brows talks about the beauty trends to try this year on the red carpet.

When was your first time working for a client on the AMVCAs? What was the experience like?
Our first time working for clients at the AMVCA, I believe, was 3 years ago. AMVCA 2015 was pretty manic. We had about 5 clients and we were running from one room of Eko Hotel to another. As manic as it was, the experience was fantastic. As a creative, the adrenaline is our rush, that’s what we enjoy. Seeing the execution thereafter is also the cherry on the cake. As we all know, teamwork makes the dream work; working with an expert team of a hair stylist, fashion stylist and photographer is an added bonus.

Can you tell us which celebrities you will be working with this year?
Two obvious celebrities we would be working on this year are Toke Makinwa and Sharon Ooja. We’re sure as the week/month closes in, more bookings will fly in. We have an expert team of makeup artists that are equipped for the big AMVCA event every year.

Which celebrities’ look are you most excited to see this year?
I’m excited to see all of our client’s looks this year!!! I’m most excited to see Toke Makinwa’s as we are very intentional about the looks we deliver for events. It’s always a killer.

What are your past favourite AMVCA looks?
Toke Makinwa – AMVCA 2016 – I’m still obsessed over her makeup! She looked like a goddess. Osas – AMVCA 2016 – Her dress was magnificent. Michelle Dede – AMVCA 2016 – Who can forget how gorgeous her eyes looked in that dewy makeup.
Toke Makinwa – AMVCA 2017 – Hair, Makeup Dress – Loved every bit of it. Loved that her hair was down and also swept all the way back from her face and her highlight was POPPING! Nana Akua, Toni Tones, Somkele – AMVCA 2017 – Their dresses were a show stopper.

Osas Ighodaro Ajibade – AMVCA 2016
Somkele Idhalama – AMVCA 2017

What trends should we look out for this year?
As regards makeup, I’m really EXTREMELY looking forward to fresh, dewy makeup as opposed to heavy glam this year. It’s fashion forward 2018 and I would really love to see this makeup trend on our red carpets here in Nigeria. This always trickles down to fashion, less is more – less drama more glamour. Effortless glam and some beautiful skin showing. Why not?! It gets better every year.

What are some things you do/don’t want to see on the Red Carpet this year?
Let’s keep the wedding dresses at home this year, big dresses don’t equal to winning dresses. Let’s throw out the heavy makeup, I want to see beauty and elegance.

The AMVCAs will air LIVE on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.
