After weeks of competitions in Telangana, India, a new Miss World has been crowned! Opal Suchata from Thailand won the title in a glittering ceremony. She received the crown from the previous Miss World, Krystyna Pyszková from Czechia. Opal’s win is a big deal because she is the very first woman from Thailand to win Miss World.

Opal also showed how modern Miss World is by winning the multimedia award. She was the most popular contestant on the app, with over 2.3 million views.

Before she became Miss World, Opal was studying for her bachelor’s degree in politics and international relations at Thammasat University, Thailand.

The competition began with 108 contestants from around the world. They were then narrowed down to the Top 40, with ten contestants chosen from each of the following regions: Africa, the Americas and Caribbean, Europe, and Asia and Oceania.

Opal dazzled in an outfit designed by GL Garlate Design, the designer also made the outfit 2024 Miss World winner wore. The dress was a mixture of different shiny crystals delicately placed, and its feather sleeves doubled as a train.

She explained the significance of the dress in her Instagram caption: “It is crafted in spirit and symbolism from opal itself—a gem known for resilience, beauty, and transformation. The shimmering white fabric and delicate opal-like florals reflect women who choose hope over fear. The soft flare mirrors the ripple effect of compassion—how one heart can awaken many. Swarovski crystals sparkle like the inner light that guides us through darkness. This is more than a dress—it is a tribute to every woman who dares to dream, even in the face of uncertainty. Just like the opal, she shines in her own light.”
