Tyla is taking us on a little trip down memory lane, one South African snack at a time.

In a recent ELLE UK video, the South African superstar put her taste buds to the test as she sampled some of Mzansi’s most-loved snacks, from Ghost Pops and biltong to NikNaks, Romany Creams and Fizzers.

But this was more than just a snack challenge. Some of the treats came with childhood memories, while others clearly did not make the cut.

Tyla placed Simba Ghost Pops at the top of her list, followed by biltong and Peppermint Crisp. Other snacks she tried included Baxton Apricots, NikNaks Flamin’ Hot, Sparletta Sparberry, Simba Mrs Balls Chutney and Romany Creams.

And then there was Fizzer. The chewy sweet sparked a particularly memorable childhood story, with Tyla recalling being stopped by a security guard who accused her of shoplifting one as a child. After the dramatic experience, it is perhaps unsurprising that Fizzer landed at the bottom of her list.

From childhood favourites to snacks that came with a side of nostalgia, Tyla’s ranking is a fun reminder of just how much food can take us straight back home.
