Fashion Bomb Daily CEO Claire Sulmers turned heads on the 2026 BET Awards red carpet in a custom creation by Nigerian designer Shadiat Alasooke, proving once again that African fashion belongs on the world’s biggest stages.

The figure-hugging gown is a masterclass in texture and craftsmanship. Constructed with hundreds of overlapping circular appliqués, the dress creates the illusion of shimmering fish scales or iridescent petals, catching the light from every angle. The embellishments shift between rich shades of navy, teal, emerald and hints of gold, giving the gown a multidimensional, almost holographic finish.

The silhouette is equally striking. A plunging V-neckline adds a touch of glamour, while the sculpted bodice cinches at the waist before flaring subtly over the hips to create a beautifully defined hourglass shape. The structured peplum-like hips lend the gown a couture feel, balancing the softness of the textured embellishments with architectural precision.

Claire kept the styling clean to let the dress shine. She paired the look with a sleek, chin-length bob, soft glam makeup with smoky eyes, and minimal jewellery, including a delicate bracelet that complemented rather than competed with the intricate design.

The result is a red carpet moment that celebrates craftsmanship, innovation and Nigerian design excellence. With its sculptural silhouette, mesmerising texture and luminous colour play, Shadiat Alasooke’s custom creation ensured Claire Sulmers stood out as one of the evening’s best-dressed guests.
